As part of the sustained efforts to address the welfare concerns of Staff and reposition the Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, in conjunction with the University’s Governing Council, has recorded significant progress in ensuring that resources are deployed for the different welfare items.

Contained in a press Statement signed by Mr. Barnabas Terfa Hemba, MAUA.

MOAUM Registrar and made available to Journalists, explained that the interventions, which cut across salary-related arrears, promotion benefits, pension obligations, academic allowances, and other welfare matters, demonstrate the government’s commitment to staff welfare, industrial harmony, and the overall performance and stability of the institution.

The Statement further disclosed that the Governing Council, at its 155th Meeting held on May 29, 2026, reviewed the status of outstanding welfare issues and provided updates on measures already implemented to improve staff welfare and promote industrial harmony.

The Statement disclosed that among the major achievements is the commencement of payment of the 22-month arrears of the 25/35 percent Wage Award and Minimum Wage. The Council disclosed that the Benue State Government had released funds for the first tranche of the agreed five-installment payment plan, which has already been implemented.

According to the statement, the government has also released the first tranche of the monthly arrangement for the settlement of promotion arrears dating from 2018. The Governing Council had earlier approved the payment of promotion arrears covering 2018 to 2021 from the University’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

In another significant intervention, the Council approved the release of funds to offset pension arrears owed to retirees of the Main Campus and the College of Health Sciences. The payments, covering several months of outstanding pensions, have already been effected.

The Council also confirmed that pension remittances to Pension Fund Administrators remain largely up to date, while funds for the payment of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) was released for three (3) months by the State Government and the first instalment already paid and the outstanding balance to be paid in installments.

The Council has reiterated government’s continued commitment to addressing all legitimate welfare concerns within available resources and sustained engagement with stakeholders to ensuring lasting stability and progress in the University.
