Dapo Abiodun has announced the adoption of Shuaib Afolabi Salisu as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 Ogun Central Senatorial election.

The endorsement was made on Thursday during the Ogun Central APC stakeholders’ meeting held in Abeokuta.

Salisu, who currently represents Ogun Central in the National Assembly, is seeking a second term in the Senate. He presently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, as well as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

Speaking at the meeting, Governor Abiodun described the senator as a dependable, reliable and consistent politician with strong administrative experience. The governor recalled that Salisu served as his Chief of Staff during his first term in office.

According to Abiodun, the senator has demonstrated loyalty and commitment to the party and possesses the capacity to build on his achievements in office.

Also addressing party members, Olamilekan Adeola, the APC consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, called on party faithful to rally behind Salisu ahead of the 2027 election. He urged members to extend the same level of support given to him to the senator.

In his acceptance speech, Salisu expressed appreciation to party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to continue providing effective representation for the people of Ogun Central.

Born on August 3, 1964, Salisu is an ICT expert and politician from Abeokuta, Ogun State. He holds B.Sc., M.Sc. and MBA degrees from the University of Lagos and has attended executive programmes at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Before venturing into politics, he worked with multinational firms including Total, Mobil and ETB, and later founded Simplex Automation Systems, an Information and Communication Technology company.

Salisu served as Chief of Staff to Governor Abiodun from 2019 to 2023 before his election into the Senate. At the National Assembly, he is currently championing the Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill.

The senator has also supported digital journalism and educational initiatives within Ogun Central, including equipment donations and the distribution of free JAMB forms to students across the district.
