The Ogun State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated its resolve to ensure a fully inclusive electoral process, promising seamless participation for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), the elderly and pregnant women during the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Feyijimi Saseyi, gave the assurance on Thursday at a media interaction held at the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Abeokuta.
Saseyi said the Commission has adopted targeted measures to guarantee that vulnerable groups are not sidelined in the electoral process, emphasizing that every eligible voter will be able to exercise their civic rights regardless of physical limitations or special conditions.
She explained that INEC has established clear policies and operational structures tailored to the needs of PWDs, with dedicated units tasked with overseeing their welfare and participation to ensure they are attended to promptly and respectfully.
According to her, provisions already in place include assistive tools such as Braille guides for visually impaired voters, alongside support systems designed to aid those with mobility challenges.
She assured that on election day, priority attention would be given to vulnerable voters at polling units across the state, urging them not to shy away from participating due to fear or uncertainty.
Saseyi stressed that adequate arrangements have been made to guarantee their comfort, safety and dignity throughout the voting process.
Earlier, Ogun State NUJ Chairman, Wale Olanrewaju, described the media as a critical partner in the electoral process, rather than passive observers.
He noted that journalists play a vital role in promoting transparency, strengthening credibility and building public trust in Nigeria’s democratic system.
Olanrewaju added that the media has continued to provide platforms for political actors to engage the public by openly discussing their ambitions and policy proposals, noting that such initiatives often broadcast live are helping to deepen democratic participation in Ogun State and beyond.
