Officials of the Ogun State Government have visited schools in Ijebu-Ode following a suspected chemical leak that reportedly affected students and residents in the area.
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Ola Oresanya, alongside the General Manager of the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), Hon. Kehinde Bello, led an inspection team to ‘Our Lady of Apostle Primary School’ as part of an emergency response to the incident.
The visit, according to authorities, was aimed at assessing the situation and ensuring the safety of pupils, staff, and residents within the affected community.
During the inspection, Bello also visited Sacred Heart Catholic College, a neighbouring school, to evaluate the extent of the impact and reassure school authorities of the government’s swift intervention.
The team further proceeded to the State Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, where some of the affected students are currently receiving treatment.
Authorities disclosed that OGEPA had deployed and installed specialised monitoring equipment in the area to determine the source of the suspected chemical leak.
The state government assured residents that investigations were ongoing and that necessary measures would be taken to safeguard public health and prevent a recurrence.
No official confirmation has yet been given on the exact cause of the incident.
