The Zamfara state Chief of Staff in the state Government House, Alhaji Moukhtar Lugga has narrowly escaped death planned against him by what is described as a coordinated assassination attempt on his life but rescued by the miraculous power of the Almighty Allah.
The Assassins, believed to act on internal information from their cohort staged their hineous on Thursday evening while traveling along the Funtua-Gusau road.
According to report, the incident occurred near Kucheri at approximately 6:16 pm when armed assailants ambushed his vehicle, unleashing a hail of gunfire.
Eyewitnesses accounted that, the attackers surrounded the car from multiple directions, firing indiscriminately in what appeared to be a well-coordinated attack. Miraculously, none of the bullets struck the driver or passengers, allowing the vehicle to maneuver out of danger, escaping the scene.
This wanton attack comes amid heightened insecurity in Zamfara State, where armed groups have intensified operations, targeting civilians and government officials alike.
Recalled that, the state has been grappling with persistent banditry, kidnappings, and violent clashes, leaving residents in a state of fear and frustration. The recent political shift by the Zamfara State government from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was seen as a strategic move to secure federal support in tackling the security crisis.
However, instead of witnessing a decline in violence, the state has experienced a surge in attacks, raising questions about the effectiveness of current security measures.
Local leaders and citizens have expressed growing desperation for a lasting solution to the insecurity plaguing Zamfara. Many argue that the government’s efforts have fallen short, as even high-ranking officials are no longer safe.
The attempted assassination of Alhaji Moukhtar Lugga underscored the audacity of criminal elements operating in the region and highlights the urgent need for a more robust security strategy.
Community leaders are calling for increased military presence, intelligence-driven operations, and grassroots engagement to dismantle terrorist networks.
Meanwhile, the state government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack, leaving many to speculate about possible motives and the identities of the perpetrators. Security analysts suggest that the ambush could be linked to internal political tensions or retaliation by criminal syndicates affected by recent security operations. Regardless of the underlying cause, the incident has further eroded public confidence in the state’s ability to protect its citizens.
As Zamfara continues to reel under the weight of insecurity, the people demand decisive action from both state and federal authorities. The near-fatal attack on the Chief of Staff serves as a grim reminder that no one is immune to the violence, and without immediate intervention, the situation may escalate beyond control. Residents remain hopeful yet apprehensive, waiting to see whether the government will rise to the occasion or allow the crisis to deepen further.
The broader implications of this incident extend beyond Zamfara, reflecting the wider security challenges facing Nigeria’s northwestern region. If left unchecked, the growing lawlessness could destabilize neighboring states, creating a ripple effect of violence and displacement. For now, all eyes are on the authorities to restore order and bring an end to the bloodshed that has claimed countless lives and disrupted livelihoods across Zamfara.
