NYA calls for courageous, people centred leadership

The attention of the National Youth Alliance (NYA) has been drawn to the planned press conference to be led by His Excellency Atiku Abubakar alongside opposition leaders and political stakeholders concerning recent developments within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

While the Alliance recognize the importance of political dialogue and institutional engagement, we must respectfully but firmly state that this moment in Nigeria demands far more than routine press briefings and political formalities.

Nigeria stands at a critical crossroads. Millions of citizens—particularly young people—are grappling daily with insecurity, economic hardship, and a growing sense of abandonment.

At such a defining time, leadership must rise beyond statements and demonstrate courage, sacrifice, and genuine solidarity with the people.

NYA therefore challenge both the leadership in power and the opposition to move beyond mere press conferences and embrace bold, unifying actions that resonate with the realities of Nigerians.

If indeed the intention is to stand with the people, then let it be reflected through:

A peaceful national protest that gives voice to the pains and aspirations of Nigerians.

A collective call for fasting and prayers, seeking divine intervention and national healing .

Visible and personal sacrifices that inspire confidence and restore hope among citizens as anything short of this risks being perceived as political routine rather than purposeful leadership.

It is deeply concerning that while political actors swiftly align and realign when power is at stake, the same urgency and unity are often absent when confronting the existential challenges facing the nation—particularly insecurity and the protection of lives.

The truth must be told: many of our political leaders, both in government and in opposition, have lost direction. What Nigeria urgently requires now is a new generation of leaders—bold, selfless, and committed to protecting the people above personal or political interests

History will not remember statements—it will remember actions, courage, and sacrifice. The youth of this nation are watching. The time to act is now as contained in a press statement issued to newsmen by the National Youth President, Ambassador Aliyu Bin Abbas.
