Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has approved the appointment of Alhaji (Prince) Shamsudeen Adebayo Apelogun as the Amirul Hajj for the 2026 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, in a move aimed at ensuring a smooth and spiritually rewarding exercise for intending pilgrims.

Apelogun, a prominent Islamic leader and community figure, holds the titles of Asiwaju Adinni of Ogun State and Baba Adinni of Remoland. His role as Amirul Hajj places him in charge of guiding and coordinating the spiritual welfare of pilgrims from the state during the holy pilgrimage.

In a related development, the governor also appointed Sheikh Zakariyah Ishaq Olorungbebe as Chairman of the Ogun State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for the 2026 Hajj operations. He is expected to oversee the board’s administrative and operational activities to ensure effective planning and seamless execution of the pilgrimage.

The appointments are part of the state government’s early preparations for the 2026 Hajj, reflecting its commitment to delivering a well-organised and hitch-free exercise. They also highlight efforts to strengthen leadership and improve institutional efficiency within the pilgrimage system.

Governor Abiodun urged the appointees to carry out their duties with integrity, diligence, and a high sense of responsibility, stressing the importance of teamwork and coordination in safeguarding the welfare, safety, and spiritual experience of the pilgrims.

The government further assured that all necessary measures would be put in place to support a successful Hajj operation, reaffirming its dedication to the religious needs and well-being of Ogun State citizens.

The appointments were announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi.
