Lisabi Festival 2026: Abeokuta gears up for grand cultural showcase

All is set for the 2026 edition of the Lisabi Festival as residents of Abeokuta prepares to host a vibrant display of Egba heritage and tradition for the grand finale.

The annual festival, held in honour of the legendary Egba warrior, Lisabi Agbongbo Akala, is expected to be full with series of activities lined up to celebrate the rich cultural identity of the Egba people.

Across the city, there is a palpable sense of excitement as streets, palaces, and community squares are being adorned in readiness for the festivities. From cultural displays to traditional rites, music, and dance performances, organisers has said this year’s edition promises to be bigger and more colourful.

Preparations in Top Gear
Organising committees, cultural groups, and local authorities have intensified efforts to ensure a hitch-free celebration. Security arrangements have been strengthened, while artisans, performers, and traders are putting finishing touches to their roles in the festival.

At various locations in Abeokuta, rehearsals by cultural troupes have become a common sight, with drummers, dancers, and chanters perfecting their performances ahead of the grand outing.

Egbaliganza Adire Village had Buzzed with Activities, making hand weaving aso oke here in the city of Abeokuta. And would be styled in colours as seen on their social media handle.

One of the major highlights of this year’s preparation is the surge of activity at the Egbaliganza Adire Village, where traditional attires for the festival are being produced in large quantities.

Designers and fabric makers say this year’s demand has surpassed previous editions, with many residents and visitors opting for customised Adire/aso oke styles to stand out during the celebrations.

“We have been working tirelessly for weeks. Orders keep coming in, especially for coordinated family outfits and group uniforms,” one of the artisans, Aishat Odutola said.

This festival is more than just a celebrationit is a reaffirmation of identity.

With preparations nearing completion and excitement reaching a peak, Abeokuta is poised to once again come alive in a colourful blend of history, fashion, and tradition as the Lisabi Festival begins tomorrow.
