Corps member renovates five unit toilet facility in Zamfara

In a bid to improve sanitation and promote a healthier learning environment, a corps member, Peace Dibal Yohanna (ZM/25A/0024), has renovated an abandoned a five-unit toilet facility at Government Girls Day Secondary School, Samaru, in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

At the commissioning ceremony held on Tuesday, the State Coordinator, Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmed, commended the corps member for the laudable project, noting that it aligns with the core values and objectives of the NYSC scheme.

The Coordinator, who was represented by the Zonal Inspector, Gusau, Mallam Mustapha Waziri Danjuma, highlighted the importance of Community Development Service (CDS), emphasizing that corps members undertake projects to address pressing needs in their host communities.

He also urged the school management and students to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.

Mallam Ahmed further appreciated the school administration for its support and thanked the sponsors for their roles in the realization of the project.

The Principal of the school, Hajiya Hauwa Nafaru, expressed gratitude to the corps member for executing the project. She assured that students would be properly sensitized to make good use of the facility.

Earlier, the project initiator, Miss Peace Yohanna, expressed appreciation to her sponsors and fellow corps members for their financial and moral support.

She recounted the experience that inspired the project, stating: “Upon my posting to this school, I once needed to use the restroom but it was not in good condition. Immediately, I knew something had to be done.”

Yohanna explained that she engaged relevant stakeholders and sourced funding to address the challenge, which led to the successful completion of the facility.

One of the project sponsors, Mr. Olorunfemi Emmanuel, commended her resilience and determination, noting that supporting the project was both necessary and impactful, given its significance to the school community.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony included community representatives led by the Hakimin Samaru, Alhaji Aminu, members of the school management, teachers, corps members, and students.
