Several passengers were injured on Monday after an Abuja-bound train heading to Kaduna derailed following a collision near Asham.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa, confirmed the incident, stating that the train encountered a serious disruption along the route.
According to him, although no fatalities had been recorded as of the time of filing this report, a number of passengers sustained injuries during the incident.
He explained that the injured passengers were evacuated and transported back to the Idu Railway Station in Abuja for immediate medical treatment.
Opeifa added that the corporation has launched a full investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment.
“It is confirmed that our Abuja–Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Passengers were injured while an investigation is ongoing into the exact cause of the incident,” he said.
