A Federal High Court in Abuja has finalized the case of defection raised against the member representing Gummi/Bukkuyum federal constituency, Hon. Dr. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi, ruling it in his favour.
The Court charged the Respondent, People Democratic Party, PDP a fine of one million Naira for infringing on the constitutional rights of the Lawmaker.
According to the statement issued by Alhaji Bello Naallah the spokesperson to the member representing Gummi/ Bukkuyum federal constituency, the executive members of PDP from the Federal Constituency of Dr. Sulaiman Gumi have frowned over his decision to dump the party for the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Consequently, they dragged him to the High Court in Abuja seeking a possible way to recall and sack him from the House of Representatives.
The case has been in court for months. But in the months that the case was being deliberated upon in the court of law, the Lawmaker was working tirelessly, promoting several intervention projects, providing employment to more than 120 individuals in his constituency, and flagging off several empowerment programmes for youths, women, and the elderly.
Today, the appellate court upheld Hon. Dr. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi’s right to defect, declaring his move legitimate and lawful, thus bringing an end to the case.
In his words, Dr. Sulaiman Gumi appreciated the High Court for upholding his rights to make the right choice promptly in favour of his people and respecting the rules of law.
He dedicated the victory at the court to the Almighty Allah and the people of His Constituency.
The Lawmaker also appreciated the efforts of the Zamfara state leadership of APC in keeping the party and coordinating all members together as one family in view of a remarkable victory in the 2027 general elections.
Sulaiman Gumi commended Governor Dauda Lawal for taking the right decision at the right time, welcoming him to the ruling APC.
He called on all residents in Zamfara state to rally around Lawal and ensure the success of his second-term bid at the 2027 polls.
