Widow Cries Out After Brutal Attack, Alleges Fresh Plot to Kill Her and 3-Year-Old Son Over Late Husband’s Estate

What began as a family dispute has spiraled into a full-blown security concern after Mrs. Angel Muna Ovuede, a Lagos-based widow, alleged that her co-wife and brothers-in-law previously assaulted her and are now facing renewed threats to her life and that of her three-year-old son over inheritance claims.

The first attack, according to Mrs. Ovuede, occurred while her husband, Engr. On Monday, Akpovriroroh Ovuede was still alive. She alleged that she was physically assaulted and beaten by her co-wife and the deceased’s brothers during a confrontation linked to family tensions.

Sources close to the family said the late engineer had intervened at the time, allegedly pleading with his wife not to escalate the matter to the police with assurances that such violence would not recur. The incident was never formally reported, a decision that Mrs. Ovuede now says she regrets.

However, following the death of her husband on June 21, 2023, and his burial on August 25, 2023, the situation reportedly deteriorated. Mrs. Ovuede claimed that hostility from her co-wife and brothers-in-law intensified, allegedly centering on control of the deceased’s estate and properties.

The matter took a dramatic turn on September 5, 2023, when her niece, who resides with her in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos, reportedly informed her of an alleged plan by the same family members to kidnap and kill her and her young son, Master Michael Okiemute Ovuede. The warning prompted her to seek immediate protection having previously witnessed her elder sister age 42 and step-brother Jimoh age 30 killed by unknown gunmen, a trauma she claimed never healed from.

Police sources confirmed that Mrs. Ovuede appeared at the station on September 6, 2023, with an affidavit from the High Court of Justice, Ajah, detailing the alleged threats and previous assault. Investigators have since commenced preliminary inquiries into the claims, including reviewing the injury photographs and assessing the alleged threatening phone calls from unidentified persons.

While no arrests have been announced as of press time, police are said to be examining the inheritance dispute angle and possible criminal conspiracy.

The case has raised broader concerns about domestic violence and estate-related conflicts, with the widow insisting that without swift intervention, her life and that of her son remain in grave danger.

However, a recent investigation into the life-threatening disputes reveals that two relatives of Mrs Angel Muna Ovuede have lost their lives.
It was reported that on the 17th of December 2025, one mamunatu Afegbua a sister to Mrs Angel Muna Ovuede lost her life when some unknown gunmen traced Mrs Angel Muna Ovuede to her residence. Upon arrival, they requested Mrs Angel Muna Ovuede and her son. Still, she told them she hadn’t seen them after the burial ceremony of late Engr Monday Ovuede but the assailants threatened to shoot her if she did not disclose the whereabouts of their target.

In an attempt to gain entrance into her apartment, the gunmen shot her and left her to die in her pool of blood. They left the scene in a hurry after discovering that Mrs Angel Muna Ovuede and her son were not in the apartment.

Tragedy struck the Afegbua family again in February 2026 when one Mr Jimoh Afegbua age 30 was shot twice by some unknown gunmen who stormed his residence in search of his sister Mrs Angel Muna Ovuede.

The young were returning from his place of work when the gunmen rounded him up and asked him to lead them to his sister and her son.

He refused to allow them to gain access to his apartment in an attempt to jump through the house perimeter fence he was shot twice and died on the spot while the gunmen searched his apartment for their target who was either not living there or was not at home.
