Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has harped on the importance of inter-agency collaboration in nipping the nation’s security challenges, this is just as he commended the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) for their selfless service to the society.

The governor made the commendation in Benin on the occasion of the celebration of the 2026 grand finale of the International Civil Defense Organization Day (ICDO)

Represented by his deputy, Hon Dennis Idahosa, the governor commended the NSCDC dedication to safeguarding lives and properties during crisis.

According to a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Mr Friday Aghedo, Okpebholo empahsied that this year’s celebration was strategic and profound, especially with its theme: “Environmental Risk Management for a Stable and Sustainable Future.”

“It reflects the growing global recognition that environmental challenges, ranging from climate change and flooding to industrial hazards and urban vulnerabilities, pose significant risks to our communities and national development,” he stated.

Okpebholo noted that managing these risks effectively is essential to securing a safe, stable, and prosperous future.

According to him, “The NSCDC jas consistently demonstrated unwavering commitment in emergency response, disaster management, protection of critical national infrastructure, and the fight against vandalism and other threats to public safety.

“Your dedication to safeguarding lives and property, particularly in times of crisis, is highly commendable.Your role extends beyond enforcement; it embodies service, vigilance, and sacrifice.

“In communities across Edo State and Nigeria at large, you stand as a symbol of hope and reassurance. Your presence strengthens public confidence, promotes peace, and contributes meaningfully to sustainable development.”

He said that day is meant to celebrate and recognise the bravery, resilience, and professionalism of our civil defense personnel.

“The sacrifices you make, often under challenging and hazardous conditions, do not go unnoticed.

“You are true patriots.To the management and entire staff of the Corps, I commend your continuous efforts to enhance operational capacity, strengthen community engagement, and build a more responsive and proactive civil defence system.

“I encourage you to remain steadfast in your pursuit of excellence, innovation, and integrity in service to our state and nation,” he stated.

On his part, the Zonal Commander of the Corps, Akintayo Ayinla, commended the governor for being a leader who has consistently demonstrated a wilful commitment to the security architecture of the state.

He said the continous support of the governor to the NSCDC Corps has enhanced their capacity to deliver on their core mandate.
