The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr Nyesom Wike, led a delegation of Rivers State leaders on a condolence visit to the family of late Senator Barinada Mpigi in London today. The late senator represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District and passed away last Thursday at the age of 64 after a brief illness.

Barr Wike described Senator Mpigi’s death as a loss, not only to the Ogoni people of Rivers State, but to the entire country. He praised the late senator as “a dependable ally who stood by his friends, even during trying times”.

The delegation included Wike’s sons, Jordan and Joaquin, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, Senators Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh, and Olaka Nwogu, as well as Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Aaron Chukwuemeka, and other notable leaders.

During the visit, Wike assured the family of continued support and promised a befitting burial for the late senator. He said, “We will play our own part. We will not forget Bari. Like I have said, it is our own loss, we will be there with you”.

Senator Mpigi’s widow, Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, thanked Wike and the delegation for their support, saying “I thank you for your presence and support. All I can say is thank you. Thank you for all you have done”.

Wike commended the late senator for his resilience and loyalty, saying “Your husband was a strong pillar in the politics of Rivers State”. The delegation’s visit was a testament to the strong bond between Senator Mpigi and his colleagues.
