The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Friday, February 13, 2026, inspected the construction sites of new Magistrate Courts in Asokoro, Jabi, and Garki, Abuja. The tour, according to a press release from Rabi Musa Umar the Deputy Director Press Office of the Minister over the weekend was part of efforts to assess the progress of work on the projects, which are aimed at expanding judicial infrastructure in the capital city.
The Minister noted that despite the challenging topography, construction of the Magistrate Court in Asokoro was progressing well. He also expressed satisfaction with the rapid pace and high quality of work at the Garki Magistrate court site, where contractors have assured completion and handover before the end of June.
The tour also covered the Jabi Magistrate court, a project flagged off in December 2025. Addressing journalists after the tour, Barr. Wike emphasized that the expansion of judicial infrastructure was a direct response to a presidential directive aimed at ensuring the FCT judiciary is never hampered by a lack of space to dispense justice.
The Minister stated that increasing the number of available courtrooms would eliminate delays caused by facility shortages and provide a more conducive environment for legal proceedings. He clarified that the attention given to the judiciary was part of a balanced developmental strategy, noting that the FCTA is aggressively pursuing road networks, schools, and healthcare improvements.
Fielding a question on the FCTA’s alleged focus on the judicial sector, Wike said the judicial arm of government is critical in making sure citizens receive the dividends of democracy. He emphasized that the administration is giving equal attention to other sectors, including the executive, roads, schools, and healthcare.
The Minister reiterated that the goal is to provide more courtrooms and befitting accommodation across the board, underscoring the administration’s commitment to improving the judicial sector and ensuring that citizens have access to justice.
