The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Ahmed Musa, Reaffirmed Commitment To Protecting Whistleblowers.

The CP emphasized the critical role of security agencies in safeguarding individuals who volunteer information in the public interest in a paper he presented titled “Whistleblowers Protection: The Role Of Security Agencies In Nigeria”.

This assurance was made during a sensitization programme on the Implementation of the Whistle Blowing Policy in Nigeria, organized by the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The Whistleblower Protection Act 2016 protects whistleblowers, including protection of identity, protection against retribution, and waiver of liability. The Act also stipulates that no sanctions will be applied for misguided reporting, unless it’s proven that the whistleblower knowingly provided false information with malicious intent.

The Command’s spokesman, DSP Ahmad Musa, in a statement, said the Nigeria Police Force has also established a dedicated email address, policemonitor@npf.gov.ng, for citizens to report crimes and police misconduct, with assurances of confidentiality and anonymity.
