The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that the strategic road projects linking the Abuja Airport Expressway to Kuje and Gwagwalada will be ready for inauguration by June 2026. Addressing journalists during a continuation of his project inspection tour in Abuja, Wike revealed that the road networks have reached advanced stages and are on track for inauguration by June 2026.

The Minister highlighted the strategic importance of the route, stressing that it would provide a direct link between the satellite towns and the city centre, significantly reducing travel time for residents. During the site visit, Wike confirmed that the Airport road to Kuje project, a critical stretch for the region’s connectivity, has exceeded 77% completion.

Similarly, on the Kuje to Gwagwalada road, he revealed that the work is currently estimated at nearly 65% completion. Wike noted that once completed, the road will allow travelers from Gwagwalada to the city center to bypass the main airport road entirely, effectively easing traffic congestion and fostering economic growth in the satellite towns.

Wike commended the contractors, Arab Contractors and Gilmor Engineering, for their dedication to the project. He stated that he was quite impressed with the level of work done since his last visit and assured residents that the project remains a top priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister confirmed that the projects would be inaugurated in the first or last week of June 2026. The Airport-Kuje road project was originally awarded in 2019 but suffered years of delays before being revived by the current FCT administration.

The completion of this project is expected to significantly improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the area, benefiting residents and commuters.
