The Nigeria Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI) has commenced a robust two‑day capacity‑building training on post‑harvest management and agro‑processing, aimed at empowering agro‑processing entrepreneurs across Kano State.

Delivering the keynote address at the opening session, Dr. Ajani A.O., Zonal Coordinator, NSPRI Kano, urged participants to take full advantage of the opportunity to enhance the value of their products.

He noted that traditional white‑collar jobs are becoming increasingly scarce, making diversification into agro‑processing a viable and sustainable alternative.

Dr. Ajani further emphasized the importance of adhering to key requirements in food processing, stressing that Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) must remain central to ensuring food quality and safety.

Another facilitator, Oshadumo D., highlighted NSPRI’s mandate and showcased the institute’s core values as a leading agricultural research institution in Nigeria.

Additional presentations covered a range of practical topics, including: Processing tomatoes into value‑added products, Production of fermented sweet potato flour, Post‑harvest value addition for cowpea, From Farm to Market:

Unlocking Opportunities Through Value Addition.

These sessions were delivered by Dr. Farida U.A., Adamson T., and Ibrahim M.A., respectively.

The training, organized by NSPRI, focuses on building sustainable agro‑processing skills for entrepreneurs, underscoring the importance of post‑harvest management, value addition, and food security.

It continues to equip participants with practical knowledge and hands‑on insights in processing, packaging, and product development.
