During the operation, they recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and stolen livestock. The operation was carried out on Saturday, February 1, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., following a distress call from Tajaye Village.
Police Spokesman,ASP Ahmad said the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), in collaboration with operatives from the Salame Division, tracked the suspects and stolen animals to Kola Village in Gwadabawa LGA. The suspects opened fire on the police team, but were overpowered and forced to flee, abandoning their loot.
The recovered items include:one (1) AK-47 rifle,one (1) loaded magazine and twenty-four (24) rounds of live ammunition.
All the rustled cattle, returned to their rightful owners.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved, as well as the supportive community security outfits. He reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
The police are tracking down the fleeing suspects, believed to be nursing gunshot wounds. The Command acknowledges the community member(s) who reported the incident and encourages residents to continue providing information to keep Sokoto State safe.
