In a timely intervention to the recent bandits attack on Gwargwabe village in Bungudu Local Government area, the rescue Commander and the Governor of Zamfara state Dr. Dauda Lawal has approved the establishment of military base in the area and announced relief materials as well as cash to support the victims.
This was disclosed when the Governor visited the area alongside his entourage to see the nefarious activities of the terrorists and condole with the victims of the wanton attack.
The statement signed by Malam Nuhu Salihu Anka, Director-General, Media and Communication to Zamfara State Government revealed that, Governor Dauda Lawal has strongly condemned the recent bandit attack on Gwargwabe village, located in Nahuce District of Bungudu Local Government Area, which resulted in the loss of lives and widespread destruction of property.
The attack, which occurred on Thursday evening last week shortly before Maghrib prayers, saw armed bandits storm the village, setting houses and food stores ablaze, killing four residents—three men and one woman—as well as several livestock. Food items and other valuable properties were also destroyed during the incident.
Following the tragic event, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal represented by his Deputy, Malam Mani Malan Mummuni (Matawallen Bukkuyum), at the funeral prayers and burial of the victims, expressed deep sorrow over the attack and condoled with the bereaved families and the entire community.
He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of his administration to ending banditry and restoring lasting peace across Zamfara State.
In his remarks, the Governor announced the approval for the establishment of a military base in Gwargwabe, describing the decision as a decisive intervention aimed at ensuring rapid security response, preventing further attacks, and strengthening security presence in the area.
He also appealed to residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information, stressing that community cooperation remains vital in the fight against insecurity.
In a strong demonstration of compassion and responsibility, Governor Lawal announced relief support of 100 bags of grains and ₦10 million in cash to assist affected families and alleviate the hardship faced by the community.
This intervention underscored the government’s commitment to both security and humanitarian support for victims of violence.
The Governor prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for the deceased and asked Allah to grant them patience, strength, and comfort to their families during this difficult period.
Earlier, the District Head of Nahuce, Kekun Nahuce, Alhaji Sulaiman Marafa, has said that, the attack was carried out after villagers refused to pay illegal levies demanded by the bandits, choosing instead to stand firm in defence of their dignity and safety in accordance to the watchwords of Governor Dauda Lawal’s led administration which has publicly declared “zero negotiations with bandits”.
The Deputy Governor was accompanied by the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bilyaminu Ismail Moriki, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area, Alhaji Nura M.U., and other senior government officials.
