Miss Joy Osianor, the Best Graduating Student and Valedictorian of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) Class of 2025, has attributed her outstanding academic achievement to the unwavering prayers, fasting and sacrifices of her parents.
Speaking during her Valedictory Address at the University’s 33rd Convocation Ceremony, Miss Osianor described her success as the product of sustained spiritual and emotional support from her family, noting that her parents consistently fasted and prayed for her, especially during examination periods.
According to her, this deep-rooted commitment formed the foundation of her resilience throughout her academic journey. While expressing heartfelt gratitude to God, her lecturers, supervisors, mentors and coursemates, she emphasised that her parents’ devotion stood out as a defining pillar of strength.
“The guidance of my supervisors and the encouragement of my coursemates were crucial,” she said, “but it was the steadfastness of my parents, their prayers and fasting during my exams, that truly sustained me.”
Reflecting on the shared experiences of the Class of 2025, Miss Osianor recalled the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, including delayed matriculation and the transition to virtual learning. She noted that these challenges, rather than weakening their resolve, forged resilience, adaptability and a strong sense of community among the graduating students.
Looking ahead, the valedictorian urged her fellow graduates to embrace bold dreams and live lives that inspire others. “If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough,” she declared, encouraging them to move forward with courage, kindness and purpose.
She concluded her address with three symbolic bows: one in remembrance of departed classmates, another in honour of FUNAAB, and a final bow in deep appreciation of the sacrifices made by parents and guardians. Her moving tribute drew wide applause, turning a personal story of faith and family support into a powerful celebration of collective effort and academic excellence.
