Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, totaling ₦758,700,527,537.89. The Governor described the budget as a “People’s Budget”, reflecting inputs from town hall meetings with citizens.

Governor Aliyu noted that the 2026 budget places less emphasis on recurrent expenditure, accounting for only 19% of the total budget size. This aligns with the policy introduced by former Governor Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, which stipulates that recurrent expenditure should not exceed 30% of the total budget.

The Governor commended the Sokoto State House of Assembly for its effective scrutiny and speedy passage of the bill. He warned commissioners to strictly adhere to the funds appropriated to their ministries, departments, and agencies.

Governor Aliyu praised the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government and called for its sustenance. He assured the people of Sokoto State of his administration’s commitment to delivering on campaign promises for the state’s development.

The Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga, commended Governor Aliyu for prioritizing key sectors like security, agriculture, healthcare, and education. He stated that the House thoroughly scrutinized the bill to reflect the needs and aspirations of the electorate.

The Speaker added that the legislature would continue to carry out its oversight functions to ensure the people receive the best services. He commended Governor Aliyu’s efforts against banditry in the state and presented a commendation award on behalf of the Assembly.

The Director General, Media and Publicity, Abubakar Bawa, released the statement on January 30th, 2026, highlighting the Governor’s commitment to development and the assembly’s support for his administration.
