The Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has strongly criticised the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise being carried out by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, describing it as a misleading and desperate move to conceal the shortcomings of the Dapo Abiodun-led administration.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Oluwabukola Soyoye, the LP accused the ruling party of using the statewide e-registration to create a false impression of public support, branding the exercise “a digital scam aimed at deceiving the people of Ogun State.”
Soyoye said that although the APC has presented the exercise as a routine membership drive, it is in fact “a covert political test that clearly reveals the widespread rejection of Governor Abiodun and his black-market approach to governance.”
According to her, residents of the state have consciously avoided any physical APC registration exercise because they are dissatisfied with the party’s performance in government.
“The people of Ogun State are no longer naïve. They have refused to openly associate with the APC because the party has failed them. This is why the APC has turned to electronic registration, a method that makes it easy to doctor figures behind closed doors without real members being involved,” the statement said.
The Labour Party further alleged that the ruling party is exploiting the digital platform to manipulate membership records, exaggerate its numbers and project an artificial sense of popularity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“What is being paraded as a political exercise is nothing more than a fraudulent digital scheme to manufacture credibility for an administration that has clearly lost the trust of the people,” Soyoye added.
She also accused the Abiodun administration of poor leadership, weak transparency and misplaced priorities, which he said have resulted in increased hardship, unemployment and deteriorating infrastructure across the state.
“The APC can no longer confront the people directly because it knows it has lost their support. This e-registration is simply a means of hiding behind computer screens to avoid the judgment of the electorate,” he said.
The party called on security agencies, civil society groups and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to closely monitor political activities in Ogun State, warning against what it described as the growing threat of digital manipulation in the political process.
Reaffirming its stance, the Labour Party said it remains committed to offering a credible, people focused alternative to the APC, assuring residents that it is determined to build a government anchored on transparency, accountability and genuine development.
