The Government of Zamfara state under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr Dauda Lawal has initiated the construction of Airstrip in Anka Local Government Area to improve connectivity, support security operations, and promote sustainable socio-economic development across the state through strategic infrastructure development.
Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Lawal Barau Bungudu, Governor Dauda Lawal in collaboration with the Ministry for Local Government, Ministry of Housing, Zamfara Geographic Information System (ZAGIS), Anka Local Government Council, the Anka Emirate Council, and relevant security agencies, inaugurated the committee to carry out the assignment.
As contained in a statement by Comrade Jamilu Bello, Information Officer, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, it was confirmed that the ministry constituted and deployed a technical committee to conduct comprehensive field inspections, Stakeholders’ consultation and technical assessment in order to identify a suitable site for the proposed Anka Airstrip in accordance with established planning, safety and regulatory standards.
The committee’s assignment is currently ongoing, and upon completion, a suitable parcel of land will be recommended and formally designated for the project. The Zamfara State Government will provide the required land for the airstrip, while construction and aviation-related development will be undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, subject to due process and statutory approvals.
The committee is chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Engr. Haruna Dikko, while field operations are being led by the Director of Civil Engineering, Engineer Amiru Musa Anka, who also serves as the Secretary of the Committee, providing professional leadership and technical expertise throughout the exercise.
