In a renewed push to provide affordable housing for middle-class and low-income residents, the Ogun State Government has unveiled its 2026 strategic housing development roadmap, with plans to deliver an additional 3,000 housing units across the state.
The roadmap was announced on Monday at a press conference held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, by the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Jagunmolu Omoniyi. He praised Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun’s leadership, noting that the administration’s clear vision has significantly transformed the state’s housing sector.
Hon. Jagunmolu disclosed that middle-class residents earlier displaced from the Ibara Housing scheme would be relocated to a new estate comprising 25,000 affordable housing units, with construction beginning with an initial 576 units.
According to the commissioner, the government is also constructing 2,500 affordable homes targeted at low-income earners, starting with 579 units in the first phase. He said land for the project has been secured and that construction would commence before the end of the month through a collaboration involving the Ministry of Housing, the Ogun State Housing Corporation, and OPEC.
He assured residents that the first phase of the project would be completed by May or June, after which work would immediately progress to subsequent phases. Jagunmolu added that the ongoing Lagos Road housing project, which includes low-income and serviced housing schemes, would be a major game-changer for the state.
Highlighting achievements so far, the commissioner revealed that the state has delivered 30 duplexes at the Ibara GRA Cluster 1 Extension and 100 duplexes at the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate. He also listed key legacy projects underway, including an International Conference Centre, a Banquet Hall, and the Appeal Court Headquarters.
Jagunmolu maintained that the administration is on course to deliver over 10,000 affordable homes before the end of its tenure, stressing that it has already provided more housing units than all previous administrations combined. He added that the Ibara GRA Urban Regeneration Project has restored dignity to the area, with over 150 modern housing units completed.
