The Kano State House of Assembly, under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Honourable Jibril Ismail Falgore, has commenced a robust three-day training programme for Honourable Councilors and Administrative Secretaries of the 44 Local Government Councils of Kano State, holding in Kaduna. 

In a statement released by the Speaker’s Spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, on Monday, Falgore emphasized that the gathering is not only about elections but about good governance, rule of law, accountability, and service to the people.  

He noted that the seminar is designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding of legislative practice and procedures.

Falgore reiterated the Assembly’s full commitment to strengthening local institutions, appreciating the unwavering support of the Governor of Kano State, the House Committee on Local Government, and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs for their dedication in organizing such an important programme. 

Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Government Committee of the Kano State House of Assembly, Hon. Aliyu Muhammed Tiga, welcomed participants and emphasized the critical role of local government councilors in upholding democratic ethics and driving sustainable development. 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Local Government, represented by Acting Permanent Secretary Alhaji Ali S. Faragai, highlighted the strategic objectives of this first-ever collaborative project between the Ministry and the Kano State House of Assembly.

He noted that the efforts of Governor Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf and Speaker Falgore clearly demonstrate a shared vision for a stronger and more effective local government system in the state. 

Malam Lawan Badamasi, Galadiman Gezawa, former Clerk and former permanent secretary and currently Commissioner KANSIEC who is also the lead team while opening a new local council highlighted critical areas of local Government role, ethics, values and councilors commitment to true sustainable democratic development.

Malam Abdullahi Alfa special Advisor to Rt Hon Speaker Kano State House of Assembly on legislative matters presented a topic titled Financial management and budget process in local government Administration. 

The theme of the training, “The Role of Local Government Councilors in Kano’s Commitment to True and Sustainable Democratic Ethics and Development,” underscores the importance of the programme, which is scheduled to last three days in Kaduna.
