AFCON: Super Eagles humiliate Mozambique, cruise into Quarter-Finals

Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered a ruthless AFCON masterclass on Monday, hammering Mozambique 4–0 in Fes to brutally end the Mambas’ campaign and stroll into the quarter-finals.

Ademola Lookman set the tone in the 20th minute, unleashing a thunderous strike past a helpless Hernâni Siluane as Mozambique’s defence crumbled at the first serious test.

The floodgates opened five minutes later when Victor Osimhen doubled Nigeria’s lead, finishing calmly after Alex Iwobi released Lookman, whose inch-perfect cross left the Galatasaray striker with the simplest of tasks.

The second half barely resumed before Mozambique were punished again, as Osimhen completed his brace in the 47th minute, tapping in from close range after another slick move orchestrated by Lookman.

The humiliation was complete in the 75th minute when Adams rifled home Nigeria’s fourth, sealing an emphatic victory and extinguishing any remaining hope for the Mambas.

Mozambique offered little resistance throughout, with Siluane and his replacement Urrubal reduced to damage control as Nigeria sliced through their backline at will, while chances at the other end were virtually non-existent.

Nigeria, by contrast, dominated every department, dictating possession, pressing aggressively, and repeatedly exposing Mozambique’s defensive frailties.

Coach Eric Chelle rang the changes late on, but the substitutions did little to stem the tide, as the Super Eagles’ attacking fluency proved far too ruthless for an outclassed Mozambican side.
