The Ogun State Government, through the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), has sealed an industrial warehouse operated by Ideal Warehouse in Asese, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, over alleged air pollution and other environmental violations.
The General Manager of OGEPA, Mr. Kehinde Bello, disclosed this through the agency’s Head of Information and Public Affairs, Mr Luke Adebesin while speaking with journalists after the enforcement exercise.
According to Bello, the action followed public complaints triggered by a video posted by a social media blogger, which alleged that emissions from activities at the warehouse were degrading air quality and posing health risks to residents of the surrounding community.
The video reportedly generated widespread concern and calls for government intervention.
He explained that officials of the agency subsequently visited the facility to conduct an environmental assessment, and based on findings from the inspection, the warehouse was sealed for non-compliance with environmental safety and air quality regulations, pending further investigation and corrective actions.
Bello reiterated OGEPA’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws across the state, warning that industries and facilities operating without adequate environmental safeguards would be sanctioned.
He also urged residents to report environmental hazards through appropriate channels to enable prompt response by the agency.
Residents of Aroshuku community in Asese reportedly welcomed the government’s intervention, describing it as a positive step toward safeguarding public health.
Some community members, however, called for continuous monitoring to prevent a recurrence.
Meanwhile, Sanhe Nigeria Limited, a plastic recycling company located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, was also sealed for allegedly discharging untreated wastewater into the community.
