The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has successfully improved the standard of living for residents through strategic infrastructure development, Minister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has said. This was contained in a press release from Rabi Musa Umar, the Assistant Director Press, Office of the Minister within the week.
Speaking at an end-of-year media chat in Port Harcourt, Wike highlighted the administration’s focus on tangible projects, citing improved roads, education, and healthcare as key areas of progress.
The opening of new road networks has significantly enhanced movement and productivity in the city, while school renovations have improved learning environments. Wike noted that over 200 contracts have been awarded to upgrade schools.
Healthcare facilities are also being renovated to provide high-quality medical infrastructure, Wike added.
The FCT’s recent ranking among Nigeria’s top five sub-nationals in “Ease of Doing Business” is attributed to the administration’s commitment to security and infrastructure development.
Wike emphasized that a safe environment and good road network are crucial for businesses to thrive, saying, “Abuja is doing well because certain parameters—security and infrastructure—are being met”.
The Minister expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win the forthcoming FCT Area Council elections, citing the administration’s extended reach to rural areas.
Wike clarified that land administration reforms, though unpopular with some elite, were lawful and aimed at protecting investors.
He also addressed political activities in Rivers State, stressing the need for synergy between legislative and executive branches to support President Tinubu’s administration.
Wike announced a tour of local governments to thank them for their support and strengthen political alliances.
The Minister refuted claims by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, saying Makinde lied about Wike offering to “hold PDP” for President Tinubu.
Wike attributed Makinde’s allegations to anger over not getting a ministerial appointment, adding that Tinubu had provided significant support to Oyo State, including a N50 billion grant for explosion victims
