Captain Kane leads Bayern rampage as Heidenheim are flattened

An injury-ravaged Bayern Munich showed no mercy, cruising to a 4-0 win at struggling Heidenheim to restore its nine-point Bundesliga lead.

Borussia Dortmund had briefly applied pressure, but Bayern swatted it away with goals from Josip Stanisic, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz and Harry Kane.

Kane hailed an “amazing year” after captaining Bayern for the first time, saying: “We’ve built a team spirit that’s hard to break.”

Bayern arrived without almost an entire starting XI, including Neuer, Kimmich and Kim Min-jae, leaving a bench stacked with inexperience.

Coach Vincent Kompany likened the situation to a “Covid week,” praising his squad’s resilience.

Despite missing early chances, Kane sealed the rout in stoppage time with his 30th goal of the season.

The defeat leaves Heidenheim second from bottom, stuck in the relegation zone.

Coach Frank Schmidt accepted responsibility, admitting: “We’ve allowed too many chances. That’s on me.”

Bottom side Mainz and 16th-placed St Pauli played out a goalless draw in Sunday’s other fixture.
