Royal rift deepens as K1 moves to freeze Awujale succession process, drags Gov Abiodun to court

Fuji music legend Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Adesanya, widely known as K1 De Ultimate (KWAM1), has escalated the contest over the vacant Awujale of Ijebuland stool by seeking judicial intervention to halt the succession process.

K1 has filed a suit at an Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode, requesting an interim injunction to stop Governor Dapo Abiodun and five other parties from taking further steps toward installing a new Awujale. The legal action effectively challenges the ongoing traditional and administrative procedures surrounding the revered royal stool.

Those listed as respondents include the Chairman of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Secretary of the Ijebu-Ode Local Government, the Chairman of the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council, and the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

The court move follows K1’s public expression of interest in the Awujale throne. He claims eligibility through the Jadiara Royal House, which he says is part of the broader Fusengbuwa Ruling House. However, his claim has been firmly disputed by the ruling house, which insists that the Olori Omoba of Ijebuland has no ancestral connection to the Fusengbuwa lineage.

In the motion ex parte filed before High Court 2 in Suit No: HC3/238/2025, and dated December 16, Ayinde invoked relevant provisions of the Ogun State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2024, Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), and the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

He is asking the court to restrain all respondents from proceeding with any aspect of the Awujale selection process pending the determination of the substantive suit. According to him, the interim order is necessary to safeguard his claimed interest and prevent irreversible actions that could undermine the subject matter of the case.

As of the time of filing this report, the court has yet to fix a date for the hearing, leaving the succession process and the emerging royal dispute temporarily in limbo.
