The Faculty of Management Sciences, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, has conferred an Award of Excellence on Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, in recognition of his outstanding achievements and as a distinguished alumnus of the institution.
The award was presented during the 7th Faculty of Management Sciences Conference, themed “Tax Reforms, Sectoral Implications, and Future Outlook: National and International Perspectives.” At the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the university described Governor Aliyu as a worthy ambassador of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, whose leadership reflects the values and academic foundations of the institution.
The conference largely focused on Nigeria’s ongoing tax reforms, with experts and stakeholders examining issues of modernization, simplification, compliance, and improved revenue generation within the national fiscal framework.
In his presentation, Alhaji Aliyara Ahmed Ibrahim described the proposed 2025 Tax Reforms as a transformative phase in Nigeria’s fiscal evolution, aimed at broadening the tax base, enhancing transparency, and strengthening voluntary compliance.
Speaking at the conference, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, observed that Nigeria’s major challenge lies not in the absence of tax reforms, but in the quality of leadership and the effective management of public resources.
The Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Dauda Abdulsalam, who played a central role in organizing the conference, highlighted Governor Aliyu’s long-standing relationship with the faculty. He emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue on tax reforms, noting that such policies have wide-ranging implications across economic sectors.
Professor Abdulsalam explained that the conference provided a critical platform for policymakers, academics, and industry stakeholders to exchange ideas and explore pathways toward a more equitable and efficient tax system in Nigeria.
