In a bold push to reshape Nigeria’s industrial landscape, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Barr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, has called for sweeping national support for the proposed 30% Raw Materials Value Addition Bill—a landmark legislation now awaiting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s signature.
Speaking Friday, November 28, 2025, at the National Advocacy and Sensitization Conference organized by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) in Abuja, the minister urged stakeholders across public and private sectors to align behind the bill, describing it as a “transformative step toward strengthening Nigeria’s economic sovereignty.”
Udeh emphasized that the proposed law would not only stimulate local manufacturing but also drastically reduce the export of unprocessed raw materials, a practice long criticized for undermining job creation and national revenue.
The conference, held at the RMRDC headquarters, drew industry leaders, policymakers, researchers, and development partners, all keenly awaiting the President’s final assent that would set the bill into motion nationwide.
“With this bill, we are charting a new course for innovation-driven industrialization,” Udeh declared, urging Nigerians to support the initiative as part of the administration’s broader economic reform agenda.
The nation now watches closely as the landmark legislation moves closer to becoming law.
