It was an unfortunate situation in Abubor Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, as production machines, office equipment, and other valuables worth billions of naira were destroyed on Wednesday morning.

The outbreak, which according to sources started around 5:50 a.m. on that day, destroyed goods in the production process and finished products as well as office equipment.

Addressing newsmen in his office, the Executive Chairman of Nnewi North, Mayor Echezona Anazodo, expressed his sadness over the unfortunate incident, adding that the root of the outbreak is yet to be known.

He said it could have been a big disaster if they hadn’t intervened immediately, which, according to him, helped to prevent further destruction.

The mayor commended the efforts of the people living close to the factory, who tremendously helped in safeguarding some of the files and documents in the factory.

He lauded the firefighters for their prompt intervention that prevented the fire from spreading to the adjacent gas plant in the vicinity.

He advised people to be meticulous and sensitive, especially during this harmattan season, stressing that it increases the risk of fire outbreaks due to low humidity, dryness, and strong winds.

“Prevention is better than cure. We should be careful this season, especially traders. Traders should cooperate with the government to build a modern market to reduce the risk of fire outbreaks. Every shop should have a fire extinguisher,” he urged.
