Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted he crossed the line after losing control in the fiery aftermath of City’s 2–1 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday.
Still seething over what he considered a string of disastrous officiating calls, Guardiola stormed across the St James’ Park turf, raging about a denied penalty, an ignored handball, and an offside call that twisted the knife in City’s already bruised evening.
According to BBC Sport on Monday, the Spaniard marched straight to referee Sam Barrott for answers, then turned his anger toward a cameraman, pulling off the man’s headphones so he could shout directly into his ear.
“I apologised. I feel embarrassed and ashamed when I see it. I don’t like it,” Guardiola said, insisting he instantly regretted the incident but refusing to reveal what he whispered into the stunned cameraman’s ear.
The evening dissolved further when tempers flared between players: City’s Gianluigi Donnarumma had to be ushered away, Newcastle’s Joelinton was restrained, and Guardiola even confronted Bruno Guimaraes.
“We know Bruno well. I always talk to him after games, everywhere,” Pep said, trying to downplay the tension. “I’m emotional. I talk with my hands, my arms, everything.”
