In a bid to showcase the richness of African cultural heritage, the 32nd Oronna Ilaro Festival in Ogun State has highlighted the huge potential in the tourism sector, which can drive economic growth and national unity if properly harnessed.

The league of cultural elders made this call at the just concluded Oronna Festival in Ilaro, Yewa South local government area of Ogun State.

The Oronna festival, which was held at Ilaro, Yewa South local government area of Ogun State, hosted dignitaries like the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Deputy Gov. Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the Olu of Ilaro, among other high-profile guests from government institutions and the traditional circle.

Showcasing the importance of tourism in boosting local economies and promoting community development, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, urged the government to push more investment into the tourism sector, citing its potential to create jobs, attract investors, and showcase Nigeria’s cultural diversity.

Commending the State Governor Abiodun’s efforts in promoting tourism development in Ogun State, he noted that the Oronna Festival is now attracting global recognition under his administration.

He also acknowledged that the festival provides a platform for stakeholders to discuss ways to harness Nigeria’s cultural values for economic growth and national cohesion.

Governor Abiodun, represented by Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele described the festival as a celebration of courage, heritage, and unity.

He said Ilaro remains an important gateway to the state’s economic transformation and praised the community for preserving its cultural legacy.

The Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, pledged continued collaboration with the state to promote Nigeria’s cultural and tourism potential.

The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, noted that tourism is a key focus of the Renewed Hope Agenda, with the Ministry launching a $100 billion Creative Economy Growth Plan to incorporate major cultural festivals like Oronna as instruments for national economic expansion.

He reaffirmed that festivals remain essential for fostering unity, promoting cultural preservation, and driving community-led development.
