Motorists and commuters experienced hours of frustration on Tuesday as a heavy gridlock crippled movement along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, particularly around the Sagamu Interchange axis.
The traffic congestion, which stretched across major connecting routes including the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and the Abeokuta Kobape Siun Sagamu (PMB) Expressway, left many travellers stranded for several hours.
Standard Times Correspondent observed that while some commuters resorted to using commercial motorcycles to navigate the jam, others chose to trek long distances along the Sagamu and Abeokuta routes. Some frustrated drivers were also seen attempting to turn back to avoid the standstill.
Speaking on the situation, the Spokesman of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, advised motorists to take alternative routes to ease pressure on the affected corridor.
Akinbiyi urged travellers approaching the Sagamu axis to exercise patience and drive cautiously, assuring that officers of TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Police were already on the ground managing the situation.
He said, “We appeal to all road users to remain calm and cooperate with traffic officials. The relevant agencies are working to restore free flow of movement as soon as possible.”
