IHS Nigeria, a leading communications infrastructure services provider, sponsored a two-day capacity-building workshop for 100 journalists in Ogun State. The training, organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, held from October 29 to 30, 2025, and focused on enhancing journalists’ skills in new media, legal defense, and economic reporting.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director of Legal at IHS Nigeria, Mrs. Yemisi Diya-Salawu, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability and community development. She noted that the media plays a vital role in shaping society, deepening democracy, and driving national progress.
Diya-Salawu explained that IHS Nigeria’s sustainability strategy is anchored on four key pillars ethics and governance, environment and climate change, education and economic growth, and people and communities. She added that the training would equip journalists with the knowledge and tools to thrive in an evolving media landscape.
Representing the Ogun State Governor, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media, commended the Correspondents’ Chapel for organizing the workshop. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the media in promoting development and good governance, while pledging continuous support for journalists in the state.
Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Rasaq Ayinla, Esq., appreciated IHS Nigeria for its sponsorship, describing it as a demonstration of genuine commitment to strengthening journalism in Nigeria. He urged participants to maximize the opportunity to upgrade their skills and adopt ethical and innovative practices in their reportage.
Resource persons at the workshop, including veteran journalist Lekan Otufodunrin and Dr. Folarin Jamiu of Olabisi Onabanjo University, urged journalists to embrace digital journalism, fact-checking, and data-driven reporting. They also encouraged practitioners to focus on solutions journalism, innovation, and sustainability to remain relevant in the modern media space.
