UNDSS Leadership visits Sokoto Police Command to strengthen collaboration for humanitarian

The Sokoto State Police Command today hosted a high-level delegation from the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) in a courtesy visit aimed at enhancing security coordination for humanitarian activities in the state.

The visiting team was led by the UNDSS Chief Security Adviser for Nigeria, Mr. Newton Senyo Kufe, and included the Area Security Adviser for the Northwest, Mr. Juan Cuadrado. They were received by the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Ahmed Musa, psc and his management team.

The PPRO Ahmad Rufai in a statement said the strategic meeting focused on identifying key areas for collaboration to facilitate the safe and secure delivery of humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations across Sokoto State. Discussions centered on improving joint risk assessments, deconfliction processes for humanitarian movements, and information sharing on security threats affecting aid operations.

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to providing a secure environment for all citizens and partners, including international humanitarian organizations working under the UN umbrella. He emphasized the police’s readiness to deepen existing cooperation with UNDSS to ensure the protection of aid workers and the unhindered access of life-saving assistance to those in need.

Mr. Newton Senyo Kufe, the UNDSS Chief Security Adviser, expressed his appreciation for the steadfast support of the Sokoto State Police Command. “This dialogue is crucial for aligning our efforts. Our primary goal is to strengthen the security architecture that enables humanitarian partners to operate effectively and safely, thereby reaching the most affected communities without compromise,” he stated.

Both parties agreed to establish more robust communication channels and regular coordination meetings to address emerging security challenges promptly. The visit underscores a shared commitment to fostering peace and stability in Sokoto State through strengthened partnership and mutual support.
