Abuja, Nigeria – Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has revealed that Abuja’s transformation into a world-class smart city is anchored on five strategic pillars: Urban Mobility, Sustainability, Public Safety, Digital Governance, and Economic Empowerment.
Speaking at the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum in Dubai, Wike emphasized that Abuja’s Smart City Vision is driven by strategic investments in these key areas, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Wike highlighted ongoing collaborations with international agencies and private sector partners, including the Smart Water Metering Project with JICA, Chinese-supported intelligent traffic lights, and ventures like the Abuja City Walk and Abuja Industrial Park. These initiatives reflect Abuja’s commitment to innovation and public-private partnerships.

The Minister, who was speaking at the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, also disclosed that Abuja was actively collaborating with international agencies and the private sector, including projects with JICA on Smart Water Metering, Chinese support for intelligence Traffic Lights, and ongoing ventures such as the Abuja City Walk and the Abuja Industrial Park. These, he stressed, reflect Abuja’s commitment to leveraging public-private partnerships and city-to-city exchanges to accelerate innovation.
Earlier, the Minister had met the UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, who also oversees the Political Affairs Office of Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
