PDP crisis deepens as Adeleke downplays rift, insists ‘It’s a Family Affair’

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has dismissed reports of deep-seated divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the ongoing crisis rocking the party is merely an internal “family affair.”

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday after chairing the inaugural meeting of the Accommodation Sub-Committee of the PDP National Convention Committee, Adeleke sought to project unity, even as internal disagreements continue to threaten the party’s stability ahead of its national convention.

Adeleke, who doubles as Deputy Chairman of the Convention Committee, maintained that all preparations for the October 15 and 16 convention had been finalized, assuring that the exercise would be “smooth and successful.”

“We have concluded the inaugural meeting of the Accommodation Sub-Committee, and everyone was present. We’ve resolved all outstanding issues to ensure the convention proceeds without hitches,” he said.

But his assurances come amid growing tensions among PDP leaders over zoning arrangements, alleged imposition of candidates, and fears that the convention may deepen existing cracks rather than mend them.

Reacting to reports of discord among key stakeholders, Adeleke urged party members and the public to disregard external speculations, describing the situation as under control.

“I can assure you that we are meeting and resolving our issues internally. It is a family affair. We don’t want anyone outside to add sugar, pepper, or salt to the matter,” the governor declared.

However, analysts argue that Adeleke’s repeated attempts to downplay the crisis only highlight the party’s fragile unity. With defections looming and internal factions jostling for control, observers say the PDP’s ability to present a united front at its convention will be a key test of its readiness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
