Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has described his side’s dramatic 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield as the most significant triumph of his tenure so far.

Appointed in November 2024, Amorim is beginning to see progress take shape, with the win not only securing back-to-back victories for the first time under his leadership but also marking a major statement against one of United’s fiercest rivals.

United took the lead through Bryan Mbeumo in the first half before Liverpool responded after the break through Cody Gakpo. But it was Harry Maguire, a surprise inclusion in the starting XI, who delivered the winner with a towering header, sealing a memorable result for the visitors.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Amorim said:

“I think that was the biggest win in my time at Manchester United. It means a lot today, but tomorrow it won’t mean a lot. It’s three points and it’s a good victory.”

While pleased with the result, Amorim stressed the importance of maintaining focus as United prepare for their next challenge.

“We fought for every ball. We lost our composure in the second half, but the spirit was there,  and that is the most important thing. If you have the spirit, you can win any game.”

Looking ahead, the Portuguese coach was quick to temper celebrations:

“It was a good day and now I am concerned about Brighton. I will enjoy it, but let’s focus on Brighton.”

The win could prove to be a pivotal moment in Amorim’s efforts to steady the ship and reignite United’s push in the league.
