By: Goodluck E. Adubazi, Abuja.

Nigeria is setting the stage for a major environmental turning point this week as Environment Africa Magazine, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment and powered by NatureHedge, hosts the Nigeria Environment Outlook 2025 in Lagos on Friday, October 17.

Themed “Shaping a Greener Present for a Sustainable and Resilient Future,” the landmark event will bring together government leaders, corporate executives, and sustainability advocates to explore strategies for advancing Nigeria’s green transition. Discussions will focus on strengthening public–private partnerships, promoting environmental compliance, and embedding sustainability into every sector of the economy.

“This year’s Outlook is not just a review — it’s a rallying point for collaboration,” said Sam Nwosu, Editor-in-Chief of Environment Africa Magazine. “Nigeria’s environmental future depends on shared commitment between government, industry, and civil society to translate ideas into measurable, lasting impact.”

A key highlight of the Outlook will be the unveiling of the 2nd Edition of Nigeria’s Top 100 Environmental Professionals, a prestigious recognition celebrating individuals driving innovation, policy transformation, and green enterprise across the country.

Following the success of the 2024 inaugural list, this year’s edition will honour a new generation of changemakers pioneering climate resilience, circular economy integration, and environmental advocacy.

The Honourable Minister of Environment, H.E. Balarabe Abbas Lawal, will attend as Special Guest of Honour, even as he features among the 2025 Top 100 honourees.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Eugene Itua, Executive Director of the African Green Economy and Sustainability Institute (AGESI). Attendees will also engage in panel discussions and thematic breakout sessions covering 13 engagement themes — including sustainable infrastructure, institutional accountability, and green economy pathways.

These sessions will foster collaboration among policymakers, academics, private sector leaders, and civil society actors, with the goal of accelerating Nigeria’s progress toward national sustainability and climate targets.

The 2025 Outlook has drawn strong multi-sectoral support from key partners such as Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company (SEEPCO), Heirs Energies, and Asteven Group.

Institutional and civil society collaborators include the Civil Society Strategy Group on SDGs (CSOSG–SDGs), the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Associations Alliance (REEEA–A), and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) — underscoring the wide-ranging commitment to Nigeria’s environmental and climate action agenda.
