The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Monday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora, urging them to continue to uphold the spirit of unity, patriotism, and resilience that has defined the nation since independence in 1960.

He also appealed to citizens to embrace President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he described as a roadmap to national rebirth, economic transformation, and shared prosperity.

“With the cooperation of all Nigerians, our country will continue to advance in peace, progress, and development,” the statement read.

The minister also wished Nigerians a memorable Independence Day, noting that activities to mark the celebration had commenced with prayers in mosques and churches nationwide.
