Eddah Electrification Project takes off under CSR of North South Power Company in Niger

Eddah Electrification Project, near Zumba village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, have been officially commissioned by the North South Power Company undertaken by it’s Foundation.
The project is part of the corporate social responsibility of the Power Company to the host communities.
Speaking during the evnt, the Chief Operating Officer, North South Power Company Limited, Shiroro Hydroelectric Power Station, Engr. U. E. Chioke said that the Eddah Community has been dignified through the electrification project which brings electricity to the doorsteps of the people of the community and its environs.
Engr. U. E. Chioke stated that the electrification Project will enhance and boost small-scale industries, improve security, as illumination, lease of life, happiness, economic empowerment of individuals are some of the immediate gains.
The Project, according to the Chief Operating Officer, shows the commitment of NSP to the well-being of the communities within which they conduct business.
He then called on the Eddah Community to take ownership of the Electrification Project and protect it from vandalism to ensure the continued benefit of the project to the community.
The Electrification Project, commissioned by the North South Power Foundation marked a historic moment for the Eddah community.
This initiative represents a significant step toward enhancing energy access and fostering sustainable development within its fold.
The commissioning ceremony took place at the heart of Eddah village, featuring the unveiling of a state-of-the-art 300kVA Substation, alongside the complete electrification and wiring of houses in the village.
The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NSPCL, Mr. Olubunmi Peters also outlined the project’s broader implications, added that the electrification substation would benefit not only Eddah but also neighbouring communities.
He stressed that the project reflects NSPCL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, promoting sustainable living conditions through infrastructure improvements, including the establishment, renovation of schools, enhancements in healthcare facilities, and provision of potable water.
The District Head of Zumba, Alhaji Garba Bala, ably represented by Alh. Garba Abarah praised NSPF’s efforts and called for similar initiatives to be extended to adjacent communities.
Alhaji Musa Mohammed, Ward Head of Eddah Community, also expressed optimism, stating that the new electricity source will bolster business activities and enhance security in the area.
The commissioning ceremony undertaken in fanfare was witnessed by dignitaries from all walks of life with representatives from the Niger State Government.
Others are Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission, Shiroro Local Government Area, the Shiroro Dam Host Community Stakeholders’ Committee and several organizations dedicated to community development.”
