A private Member Bill seeking for a law to establish the Niger State Capital Development Authority and for other matters connected therewith has commenced before the state house of assembly.

The private Bill, was sponsored by Hon. Umar Nasir, Member Representing Paikoro Constituency, aims to establish the Niger Capital Development Authority for the central management of physical facilities and coordination of the delivery of social services for the Capital.

The Niger State Capital Territory will span from Jazu village in Paikoro Local Government Area, through Minna town in Chanchaga Local Government Area, to Maikunkele Village in Bosso Local Government Area.

After much deliberations and contributions from members, all of whom expressed support for the Bill, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, commended members for their inputs and referred the Bill to the House Standing Committee on Rural and Urban Development, Local Government, Chieftaincy affairs, and Judiciary and Legal Matters.

The Committee has been given four weeks to report back to the House for further legislative action.

In a related development, the House received a Motion, calling on the Executive Arm of Niger State Government to expedite action on the renovation of the School of Health Technology, Tungan Magajiya.

The Motion, sponsored by Hon. Alhaji Bello Bako, Member Representing Rijau Constituency, highlighted the urgent need for Government intervention following a fire incident that destroyed office blocks and properties at the School.

Hon. Bello Bako informed the House that the fire, which occurred on July 29, 2025, resulted in the loss of properties worth millions of Naira, including office equipment, documents, certificates, furniture, and other vital items.

He cited Section 17, subsection 3(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which mandates the State to provide public assistance in deserving cases or other conditions of need.

The House has thus urged the Executive to take immediate action to renovate the burnt buildings and replace destroyed items to ensure effective and efficient performance of the academic and administrative activities of the school.
