Police bursts cult cell, arrest suspect, recover arms in Imo

The Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) of Orji Division, Imo State Command, in decisive onslaught against cult-related violence, on Monday, 1st September 2025, led his surveillance team on a successful operation in Okwu Uratta, which resulted in the arrest of a suspected cultist, Anunobi Chukwuemeka and the recovery of locally fabricated firearms and live ammunition.

This was made known through a statement made available to newsmen by the police public relations officer, PPRO, Henry Okoye.

“The operation, based on credible intelligence, led to the arrest of one Anunobi Chukwuemeka ‘m’, 26 years old, of Ngor-Okpala L.G.A, Imo State. He was found in possession of a locally fabricated revolver pistol, a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, and three live rounds of ammunition.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of a cult group known as the Neo Black Movement (NBM) also called black axe and is currently cooperating with ongoing investigations.

According to the statement, efforts are in top gear to apprehend other fleeing members of the outlawed group, particularly those behind the manufacturing and supply of the locally made firearms.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has reassures Imolites of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of crime and criminality.

The CP urged members of the public to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information while warning cultists and other criminal elements to desist from their unlawful activities or face the full weight of the law.
