The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has flagged off Lot 1 of the Bwari township water supply project. The ceremony, held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in Abuja, marks a significant step towards ensuring improved access to clean and potable water in the FCT’s satellite towns, according to a press release from Rabi Musa Umar, Assistant Director Press, Office of the Minister on Wednesday.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate release of 50% of the contract sum for both the Bwari and Karu water projects. Both projects are scheduled for completion and inauguration during President Tinubu’s third anniversary celebration in May 2026. The Minister unveiled a strategic timeline for future projects, including water projects for the Kuje, Kwali, and Gwagwalada Area Councils.
Barrister Wike emphasized that the project will provide clean, potable water to the residents of Bwari and other satellite towns, saving them the cost of digging boreholes and buying water. He stated: “By the time Mr. President’s four-year tenure expires, we would have touched all the satellite towns by providing them clean, potable water.”
The project is expected to create job opportunities and improve the health and socio-economic well-being of the people in the area. The Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, noted that the project will provide essential secondary and tertiary distribution networks for effective supply of potable water to the teeming populace of Bwari and its environs.
The Deputy Managing Director of CGC Nigeria Limited, Lv Haiming, assured that the project would be executed without delay, providing clean, potable water to the residents of Bwari and neighbouring communities.
The Minister of State FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the Bwari water township project as “history in the making,” emphasizing that it will improve the quality of life of families, ensure children grow up healthier, and provide clean, safe water for mothers.
