The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, demonstrated leadership by example as he participated in the ongoing bye election for the Remo Federal Constituency, urging citizens to embrace peace and uphold the values of democracy.
Governor Abiodun arrived at his polling unit in the company of aides, party chieftains, and security details. At exactly 10:33 a.m., he was accredited by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at Polling Unit 002, Ita Osanyin, Ward 3, in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area, before proceeding to cast his vote. The process was seamless, lasting only a few minutes, after which the Governor addressed journalists and reiterated his administration’s unwavering support for transparent and credible electoral processes.
The atmosphere at the polling unit was calm and orderly. INEC officials were seen attending to voters efficiently, making use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), while security operatives provided adequate protection to forestall any form of disruption. Voters in the community trooped out in impressive numbers, reflecting strong enthusiasm and determination to exercise their civic rights. Many commended the smooth conduct of the exercise, describing it as a reflection of improved electoral standards.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote, Governor Abiodun emphasized that democracy thrives when citizens willingly participate in elections without fear or intimidation. He noted that his presence at the polling station was not just to fulfill his civic duty but also to encourage other eligible voters across the constituency to come out and make their voices heard.
“This is our democracy, and the only way to sustain it is through peaceful participation in elections. I am glad with the turnout here, and I want to encourage our people across Remo and Ogun State at large to remain law abiding, cast their votes, and protect the sanctity of the process,” the Governor said.
Community leaders and residents of Iperu also expressed satisfaction with the peaceful atmosphere, commending both INEC and security agencies for ensuring orderliness. Some voters lauded the efficiency of the accreditation process, while others called on political actors to shun violence and allow the will of the people to prevail.
The Remo Federal Constituency bye election is being closely monitored as it is expected to test the readiness of electoral institutions ahead of future national polls. Political analysts have also described the exercise as a pointer to how the electorate in Ogun State continues to embrace democratic participation.
Governor Abiodun’s participation, observers note, goes beyond mere voting; it is a symbolic reaffirmation of his administration’s pledge to uphold democracy and a call to all stakeholders to place patriotism above personal interest.
As voting continues across the constituency, the eyes of the public remain fixed on INEC and the security agencies to deliver an election that reflects the true will of the people.
