The Niger State Government has constituted and inaugurated a panel to investigate allegations of misconduct against the suspended Chairman of Chanchaga Local Government Council, Aminu Ladan.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, the terms of reference of the committee include investigating the allegations leveled against the suspended chairman, as contained in the letters or resolution by the councillors dated June 3, 2025, and signed by the majority of the councillors, and making appropriate recommendations to the governor and the local government legislative council.
The committee is further mandated to procure all necessary evidence and examine all persons deemed relevant as witnesses. It may also require that the evidence, whether written or oral, of any witness be given under oath or declaration, as would be required if the witness were giving evidence in a court of law.
The panel has the authority to summon any person within Nigeria to attend any meeting of the committee, give evidence, and produce documents or other items in their possession, and to examine them as witnesses.
Inaugurating the committee at the Government House, the state governor emphasized the importance of constituting the investigative panel in accordance with the provisions of the law.
He urged the panel to be diligent, just, and transparent in getting to the root of the matter.
The governor pledged to provide the necessary support for the panel in carrying out its assignment.
The Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Barr. Nasiru Mu’azu, had earlier explained that the inauguration of the investigative panel by the governor was in compliance with the provisions of Section 31(3) of the Niger State Local Government Law 2001 (as amended).
The panel is to be headed by a High Court judge, Justice Abdullahi Mikhailu. Other members are Barrister Bala Mariki and Alhaji Abubakar Salihu, while Barrister Ibrahim Mohammed Babangida will serve as secretary.
